Charlie's New Truck
by Charlie Wray
I didn't think anything could top the "WOW" factor I had last year when I picked up my RAM, I
was wrong. This year when I picked up my 2011 RAM 2500 Laramie 4X4 diesel, I was yet again
surprised. It was drop dead gorgeous in a truck lovers sort of way! Another step up in comfort
with luxurious seating, and handling and steering that would make you forget that this was
a large pick up truck. The power from the engine is transformed into an incredibly smooth
shifting transmission, even when towing my large Crestliner boat up steep hills. This one has
all the comforts you would expect in a luxury vehicle, heated seats, back up sensors, smart
gauges, even a heated steering wheel and vented seats! I had a heated steering wheel before
in the 2010 RAM and loved it on cold mornings, but vented seats! Well, let me tell you, when
you are hot after a long day on the water, or even a long drive to your destination, it's like air
conditioned seats and more welcomed than I could ever describe!
What was even more amazing, was this 2011 RAM even had more power and torque than the
2010 model, it simply made you forget you even had a trailer in tow. With all this power, I had
wondered about fuel efficiency. Well, I am very pleased to announce, that after using this RAM
for the Summer and Fall, towing boats across Ontario and two long trips to the East Coast,
including a 23 hour run to North Lake P.E.I. Tuna fishing and a round trip of over 5,000 kms. This
Heavy Duty RAM is just starting to break in and I am getting just over 1,000 kms on a tank of
fuel. This RAM is truly a dream vehicle, for long trips or towing a trailer. Once again, I am not
intending to make this a sales pitch, just an honest opinion of what I think of RAM and how they
have progressed over the years. I leased my first RAM in 1999 and have loved them ever since.
The other fact I would like to mention, despite my love for fishing and towing boats all over the
country for the last 25 years, I was never convinced by friends to look towards a diesel vehicle
when I was younger. They were always perceived as noisy, had a reputation for a rough ride
due to the increased weight of the engine, and blew thick exhaust smoke up and down the
highway. I don't want you folks to make the same mistakes I did. If you tow a boat or trailer,
or simply enjoy driving on long trips, look at getting into a diesel RAM!! I should have done it
years ago. Powerful, fuel efficient, and even when towing a trailer, you don't even feel the RAM
working any harder going up the hills, not like most gas vehicles with a trailer, they are that
powerful. Built to work, and wonderful to drive, the new RAM's are whisper quiet, drive like
a luxury vehicle and are smoke free. Don't wait too long to enjoy the benefits like I did, I will
never look back.
All the best
